| Next to the National Art Museum in the beautiful Rua das Janelas Verdes is a small palace, dating back to the end of the 18th century, which is also called As Janelas Verdes (Green Windows). The house, like the street of the same name, deserves to be discovered slowly, savouring all the time its gentle, romantic, welcoming atmosphere. Eça de Queirós, the famous Portuguese novelist, is connected to the hotel by tradition and there are those who say that he lived and found inspiration here in this palace. And for O Ramalhete in his novel Os Maias it was a magical home. The memory of his presence is still very much alive in the atmosphere as we find ourselves immersed in small objets of art, books, paintings and mementoes that take us back to another era now being relived. The rooms are sunny and cheerful. The Tagus is close by. One feels good here…When Spring arrives, the days begins with a wonderful breakfast served in the garden while you breath in the calm of an old Lisbon where it still feels good to feel love. |
