We met Caroline Jean-Baptiste, General Manager of “Le Montparnasse” Hotel in Paris. It was an opportunity to reflect on a high-stakes activity: managing the hotel’s online distribution system and assessing the tools that can make life easier and strengthen a hotel’s performance.

Hello Caroline! First of all, what daily challenges do you meet in your hotel distribution?

CJB: There are many challenges. Of course, the two chief priorities in the current, especially competitive, situation are optimising hotel turnover and adding value to direct sales. The life of a hotel is often eventful and I have to be able to rely on simple and practical-use management tools in order to become more efficient.

Securing my inventory while avoiding overbookings and anticipating reservation errors, which can have a serious impact on our activity, are also daily challenges. We cannot allow ourselves to lose these sales on our website due to bad management of inventory or prices.

You use Distribution Manager. How does it help you manage your hotel distribution better?

CJB: As hotel general manager, I am often contacted by the hotel’s many services. I needed to have an easy-to-use tool. In the past, nobody dared to use our channel manager. Now, thanks to Distribution Manager’s very intuitive interface, the control of inventory and pricing has been made easier for my teams. It saves 50% of our time when price checking and in just one click I can update all my channels and my website.

Moreover, the Distribution Manager opens up channels that we were not connected to before, especially in Asia. This allows me to target new clients and consequently boost my sales.

I can also secure my distribution thanks to the centralised allotment system and to automatic inventory rules. For example, I can choose to close those of my channels that bring in the least amount of revenue when I have only a few rooms left and this can add value to my website, We save time and money.

Another advantage of the Distribution Manager is that I no longer need configuration support. If I want to add a new price on one channel, I can, without having to make a special request. I am completely autonomous.
